Peter Montague and his unknown first wife were the parents of six children.
1. Anne Montague, b. about 1630 (m. John Jadwin).
2. Ellen Montague, b. about 1633 (m. William Thompson).
3. Peter Montague, b. about 1638 (m. Maritje Meinerts).
4. Margaret Montague, b. about 1641.
5. William Montague, b. about 1644.
6. Elizabeth Montague, b. about 1647 (m. Doede Meinerts).
══════════════════════════════════════════════════
NOTE: There has been much speculation about her identity.
A published suggestion (1894) that her first name was "Hannah" was based on the misinterpretation of the inventory of widow Hannah Mountney (1659). Although indexed as "Hannah Montague" in the ledger copy at the Lancaster County, Virginia courthouse, the item itself clearly reads "Hannah Mountney".
Internet postings claiming that she was "Cecily Reynolds" are without merit and represent confusion generated from old publications and the forename of Peter Montague's second wife (Cecily Clark). For a more recent, comprehensive and scholarly account of the Peter Montague family (including discussion of his wives), please refer to Adventurers of Purse and Person, Virginia, 1607-1624/5: Families G-P by John Frederick Dorman, pages 652 – 676.
