Richard Fessler Northam 79, Indianapolis, formerly residing in Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away at home on Saturday, November 26, 2005.

His wife, Phyllis Sullivan Northam; three sons and two daughters survive him, Stephen Patrick (Rick) Michael, Katrina Black and Nanette Johnson. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In the last few years, he had been actively involved with the Central Indiana Modelers Sky Diving Team. Besides his 40-year passion for model airplanes, he was a pioneer in the development of the Three Quarter (TQ) Midget racing circuit during the 1950's and early 1960's. He was the first TQ National Champion in 1957. He was a member of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Old Timers Association.

Friends are welcome to attend a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. with a memorial service to be held immediately following on Wednesday, November 30 in Conkle Funeral Home Speedway Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be sent to the Academy of Model Aeronautics, attention Education Program, 5161 E. Memorial Dr., Muncie, IN 47302 (765-289-4236) or the Ruth Lilly Hospice of Clarian, P.O. Box 1367, Indianapolis, IN 46208 or the Indiana Cancer Association.
