James [Jack] C. Tingler

Services were held Saturday for James [Jack] C. Tingler at the Bram Funeral Home in Gallatin. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gallatin. The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church of Jameson.

James C. Tingler, 71, Jameson, died Wednesday July 13, 1994, at St. Luke's Northland Hospital in Smithville.

Mr. Tingler was born in Pond Creek, Okla. He graduated from Pond Creek High School in 1939 and moved with his family to Jameson in 1941. Jack entered the Army in 1942 and served in the 33rd Field Artillery of the First Division. While in the Army, he saw action in Africa and Italy and was a member of the invasion forces of Normandy.

Mr. Tingler farmed in the Jameson vicinity. He sold his farm in 1959 and worked 23 years for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. He retired from the Postal Service in 1982. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Jameson, the Masonic Lodge of Gallatin, the Jameson Lions Club, and the Davieses-Caldwell Unit, Missouri Rural Carriers Association.

During his retirement, Mr. Tingler enjoyed wood working and repairing clocks. Many of his projects may be seen in homes throughout Daviess County.

On December 16, 1945, he married Betty Brown in Pattonsburg. She survives of the home.

Mr. Tingler was preceded in death by two brothers, Leon, and Harley, and one sister, Gladys Saunders.

Other survivors include two sons, Richard of Kearney and Steve of Smithville; one niece and nephew whom they raised since little children, Barbara Adkson of Gallatin and James Saunders of Southern Pines, N.C.; one sister, Jean Montgomery of Piattaburg; four grandchildren; and two great-nephews.
