Homer was born May 18, 1938 in Cleveland, Tennessee, the son of Elmer and Mildred (Buckner) Thompson.
He was married to the love of his life, Dena Rae Decker Oct. 2, 1955 and from this union was born two children: Mitchell Grant Thompson and Sherri Jo Thompson.
Homer moved his family to Greybull in September, 1975 and was later blessed with two grandsons, Carl Dean and Robert Cole Emmett. In 2010, Carl Dean Emmett and Nathalie VanGrinsven were united in marriage and from this union were added 2 ½ year old Amelia Rose Emmett and 3 week old Henry Cole Emmett.
He served his country in the United States Navy for three years. Homer’s livelihood included building contractor, dock foreman for Roadway Express, project engineer for Colony Communication, motel owner, and bus driver for Greybull Schools for 20-plus years.
Homer had a love for Greybull and a sincere desire to help wherever possible resulting in his community service of over 24 years. He served as city council member and mayor of Greybull, as school board member, and chamber director, and on various committees.
Homer was a member of the First Baptist Church in Basin for a number of years and from this received great fellowship and love.
Homer is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mildred; his son, Mitchell; his grandson, Robert Cole; 3 sisters; and 1 brother.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dena Rae Thompson; his daughter, Sherri Emmett and husband, Robert; grandson, Carl Dean Emmett and wife, Nathalie; and his great-grandchildren, Amelia and Henry.
