Fredrick Arthur Ballew, 80, of Chatsworth passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Hamilton Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 1, 1934 in Murray County, Georgia to the late Claude and Stella Ballew.

Mr. Ballew was a member of Holly Creek Baptist Church, and was also attending Springs of Life Church. He was a charter member of the Murray County Rescue Squad, where he served for 37 years. He was a leader of Boy Scout Troop #72 for several years. He also earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Reinhardt College. Employment includes manager of Piggly Wiggly and Shop Rite and owner of Ballew Furniture. He retired from J&H Carpet and Murray County Transit.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Jacqueline “Jackie” George Ballew; parents, Claude and Stella Ballew; brother, Rev. Raymond Ballew and wife, Glenda; brother, Cecil Ballew; sister, Wilma Cowart Woodring and husband, Woody; sister, Faye Silvers, and husband, Charles; and brother-in-law, Jim Bishop.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey & Christy Ballew of Chatsworth; daughter and son-in-law, Terri Ballew Williams & Gary Edwards of Chatsworth; sisters and brother-in-law, Effie Bishop and Loretta & Claude Springfield of Chatsworth; grandchildren, Danyelle Steelman, Jessica Cronan, Tyler Williams, Sarah Williams, Tanner Williams, Keisha Dover, Codie Ballew, and Nathan Ballew; step-grandchildren, Joseph Beal, Trinity Beal, Stephanie Edwards, and Savannah Edwards; ten great-grandchildren; and other extended family.

Funeral services for Mr. Ballew will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014 in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Cochran and Associate Pastor Shaun Pinette officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m.
