Alvin R. Adams, 80 year-old former Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, was born May 9, 1934 in Walden, Colorado to Lester and Nora Dunning Adams and passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Elk City Nursing Center.

Alvin was raised in Toyah, Texas where he graduated from Toyah High School in 1952 and then served his nation in the U.S. Army for three years. After leaving the service he married Lois Clark on December 20, 1959. He then continued his education at Texas Tech University. After two years, he transferred to West Texas State University where he would graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts. Alvin then moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma where he taught at Southwestern Oklahoma State University from 1971 to 1976 and ultimately earned his Master’s Degree in Education from North Texas State University.

In 1976, he left teaching to begin Adams Wood Products. Alvin and Lois owned and operated the business for 34 years until retiring in 2010. He moved to Elk City, Oklahoma in 2013. Alvin enjoyed wood working projects, traveling, drawing and watching John Wayne movies.

Alvin is survived by his son, Michael and Marnie Adams of Harrogate, England, two daughters, Laura and David Scalf of Norman, Oklahoma and Sue and Danny Willson of Elk City, Oklahoma, one sister, Loretta and Bill Kelldorf of Tyler, Texas, one half-brother, Dr. Jerome and Irene Adams of Burkburnett, Texas, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his three brothers, Gerald Adams, Horace Adams and Nathan Adams.

Memorial services will be held Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford, Oklahoma with Rev. Lynn Brack officiating under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
