The funeral of William F. Mayer, of 331 ½ North Washington Ave, a man aged 63 years who gave the most of his life to the service of government as a soldier, will be held Wednesday morning at the St. Patrick's church, while his four sons, following the footsteps of their father, are serving in the Philippine Islands.
Mr. Mayer served all during the Civil War and was with General Custer when he started west on his last campaign. He was in the infantry however, which went by boat. The infantry arrived after Custer's force had met Sitting Bull at the Little Big Horn.
He leaves three daughters in addition to his four sons, and they are all in Columbus. He was a member of Modern Woodmen Camp No. 3735 and many of them will be in attendance at the funeral which will be held at 8:30 o'clock.
