Jay Altazan, 60, a resident of Mountain Home passed away Sunday, December 8, 2014, at his residence.

He was born October 23, 1954, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to J.W. and Dawn (Russell) Webb. On January 3, 1997, Jay married Kathleen Wentz Altazan in Mountain Home. Jay was first and foremost a man who followed hard after God. He was a hugger, and a loving friend to so many. He was passionate about motorcycling and loved riding dirt roads and twisty paved roads. There was no distance too great to visit folks and explore along the way. An adventurer who enjoyed the ride more than the destination in all facets of his life.

Jay worked in the Lord’s service at whatever he did. Employed most recently in the Mountain Home High School’s Maintenance Dept. as a custodian. Former employers included area manufacturing facilities in the electronics, plastic, and boat building industries as well as an insurance agent and held a securities license. He served in the United States Air Force, during the Vietnam era. Jay served on security in the missile silos in Arkansas, was stationed in England and served in Vietnam. Jay Altazan was a Christian, and follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was an ordained minister. Jay also mentored and served his community in several capacities including the Baxter County Alternative School TIME Mentoring Program, formerly on the board of the No. Ark. Food Bank and supported the Arkansas Baptist Boys Ranch in Harrison.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Kathleen (Frances Wentz) Altazan of Mountain Home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Megan Grober and Brian Dart of Katy, TX and Nicole Bertrand and Jody Horne of Mountain Home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon Keith and Ginna Altazan of Kingston, Tennessee, William James and Taylor Crosslin Altazan of Lakeview; four siblings, Mark Webb Kaufman of Montpelier, Vermont, Sean Webb Landreneau, Dawn Webb Rush and Colleen Webb Burns, all of Denham Springs, Louisiana; two adoptive siblings, Sharon Altazan Stacy of Dolph and Shannon Altazan of Ethyl, Louisiana; step-mother, Bennellon “Bennie” Webb of Denham Springs, Louisiana two step-sisters, Cindy Constant Shephard and Lori Constant Taylor, both of Denham Springs Louisiana; a half-brother, Todd L. Webb of Denham Springs, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Madelyn Grace Dart, Owen Justice Dart and Caroline Hope Dart, all of Katy, Texas, Kiley Renea Horne and Landon Marcus Horne, both of Mountain Home, and Kylie Maree Altazan and Joshua Evyn Davis, both of Kingston, Tennessee.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 13, 2014, at the East Side Baptist Church with Brother Jim Greenslade officiating. Fellowship will follow at the Three Rivers Biker Church in Gamaliel. No graveside services.
