Myrtle Johanna Borgen was born to John and Mary Borgen January 5, 1899 at Evansville, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed by Rev. T. A. Sattree in Evansville. Myrtle received her teaching training at Moorhead State College. For ten years she taught in Douglas, Grant and Todd Counties. On June 19, 1927, she was married to Albert Salveson, with Rev. Schumacher officiating at West Miltona. They farmed near Evansville for 13 years, then purchased a farm near Rose City where they farmed for four years. They next moved to Minneapolis and were employed for 10 years. On retiring they bought a home near Miltona where they resided for 13 years. They then purchased a home in the town of Miltona where they spent their last years together. For many years they were active members of Faith Lutheran Church in Miltona. When Albert died in 1976, Myrtle sold the home in Miltona and moved to an apartment in Alexandria. In January 1979, she became a resident of Bethany Home where she resided until her death on April 15, 1993 at the age of 94.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, parents John and Mary Borgen; one sister, Hilma Podratz; and one brother, Albert. Surviving is a niece, Sylvia Borgen Swanson and her husband Gordon and their family of Wheeler, Illinois.
Funeral services were held April 19, 1993 at Spruce Hill Lutheran Church with Pastor Kenneth Thiele officiating. Pallbearers were David Lusty, Donald Lusty, Harvey Danielson, Eldred Fredman, Raymond Engstrand, and Lowell Christianson. Interment was in Spruce Hill Lutheran Cemetery, Spruce Hill Township, Minnesota. Services were directed by Petermeier's Alexandria Funeral Home, Alexandria.
