She said thst in the Summer of 1776 her husband, Abijah Beardslee, was a sergeant in the Stratfield Militia and belongs to the Parish of Stratfield. She explained that Stratfield Parish was part in the Town of Stratford and part in Fairfield. His company was commanded by Capt Thaddeus Bennett and belonged to Col. Samuel Whiting's Regiment and General Gold S. Silliman's Brigade. In the Summer of 1779 Abijah Beardslee was a Sergeant in Capt Abijah Sterling's Company and was there when Fairfield was burnt. In 1782 he was either drafted or volunteered to keep Guard at Newfield, now called Bridgeport, under Capt Daniel Lacey of Stratfield Parish. The Guard was under the command of Col Samuel Whitting's Regiment and General Gold S. Silliman's Brigade. The Guard post was about a mile from their house. He was Ensign in the Guard. She said remembers it because it was the Summer their son Anson was born September 1782.
