Ida Godbout 1915-2005

Ida’s 90 years of life were totally about loving and supporting her family. She was a genuine caring person who dedicated herself to her late husband, Alphonse and her ten children. In her last years, she fought numerous courageous battles with illness. As was her wish, she died at home, Sunday, August 28, 2005. At the last moment she was in the arms of her daughter, Monique, and her son, Maurice was holding her hand.

Ida will always be remembered for her sharing, her support of the church, her always open house and her marvelous cooking. Her family and friends were amazed by her ability on such short notice, how quickly Ida could prepare a big and generous meal.

Ida loved company, especially having her children home from the U.S. and Canada for vacation visits. Her maiden language was French but her clearest words in English were "come back again soon" and she would mention that the next holiday, whether it be Christmas, Easter or Labor Day, was just weeks away.

She is survived by four sons, L. Valere (Parise) of Bristol, Connecticut, Maurice (Linda) of Southington, Connecticut, Arcade (June) of Port Hawksbury, N.-S. and Aphonse Jr. (Marie-Ange) of Grand Falls, four daughters, Gisele Chaires (Frank) of Burlington, Massachusetts, Solange Castonguay (Kenneth) of Terryville, Connecticut, Patricia Roy (Marc Pellerin) of Lewiston, Maine and Monique McLaughlin (Gerard) of Dieppe, N.B., son-in-law, Claude Desjardins of Grand Falls, 24 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, four sisters, Alma Duguay of Grand Falls, Laurette Desjardins (Antoine) of Drummond, Therese Senechal (Frank) and Odette Levesque (Real) of Saint-Andre, sisters-in-law, Yvette Beaulieu of Grand Falls, Madeleine Beaulieu of Drummond and Lucille Godbout of Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska, as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Celine Desjardins and Anne-Marie Godbout, two sisters, Marie Daigle and Lina Michaud, five brothers, Levite, Alcide, Wilfred "Will", Aurele and Pius.

Resting at O’Regan’s Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd., Grand Falls with visiting hours Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, August 31st at 2 p.m. from the St-Georges Roman Catholic Church, Grand Falls, with interment in the St-Georges Cemetery. For those who wish, a donation to the extra-mural program or the Canadian Red Cross Society would be appreciated by the family.
