From a newspaper clipping we learn that W. M. (Bruce) Mitchell and Jessie Yates celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1956. They had lived in the Evans, Colo. vicinity for 41 years. He was the Town Marshall for 12 years, and also farmed for many years. Mr. Mitchell retired in 1943. In 1956 they were one of the two oldest families in Evans. All their children resided at Evans, except Mrs. Horton, who lived at Walden. They had 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Mable (Mitchell) Van Gorder wrote that "My mother was a slender woman, about 5 ft. 6 in. tall. She had blue eyes and dark auburn, naturally curly hair. She had a fair complexion. I don't think anyone worked any harder than she did. She was a devoted wife and mother. Besides raising her children, she raised three grandchildren. She didn't have much of an education, only through the third reader as she called it, but she could read any newspaper or book. She had a heart attack in July and died in Sept."

Jessie L. Mitchell died Sept. 18, 1957 at Evans, Weld County, Colo. Her address was 1204 - 10th St., and she had lived in Evans for 42 years. She was 76. Her birthplace was Mercer Co., Mo. and her parents were Solomon Yates and Arabella Swan. Informant was W. M. Mitchell, 1204 - 10th St., Evans. She was buried in the Evans Cemetery, 9/23/1957.
