[After Thomas Wingo died, his brother John took over the responsibility for raising his children. John Wingo had 12 children of his own, but was a very rich man and could provide for four "extra" children easily. Thomas' children evidently looked upon their cousins as brothers and sisters, because they were closely tied for the rest of their lives.]

We the subscribers this Seventeenth Day of October 1797, received of John Wingo, Sr. of Amelia County two hundred and thirty-five Pounds seventeen shillings for which we the Subscribers do hereby agree that neither us or our heirs and will or shall ever put up or lay any claim or demand against the estate of the above-mentioned John Wingo, Sr or any part thereof ....
