Ernest Barngrover, age 86, of Brookfield, died Monday, November 24, 2014, at University Hospital in Columbia.

A funeral service will be Monday, December 1, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home in Brookfield with Pastor Mike White officiating. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Jacksonville at 12:00 noon with Military Honors rendered by VFW Post 4557 of Brookfield. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday and the family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 in the afternoon.

Memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project may be left at or mailed to Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, PO Box 496, Brookfield, MO 64628.

Ernest Clyde, son of Glenn and Rubie (Bowman) Barngrover, was born August 24, 1928, in Smithland, Iowa. On November 7, 1956, he married Joyce L. Fate who preceded him in death March 16, 1995.

Ernest was a US Army Veteran, he had served three tours in Vietnam and retired as a 1st Sergeant. He later worked as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor at Bridgeway Counseling in St. Charles. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Brookfield and was a member of General Blackjack Pershing VFW Memorial Post 4557 of Brookfield.

Survivors include four children, Larry Barngrover of St. Charles, Rita Hoeter and husband, Paul of Amelia, Ohio, Cindie Mead and husband, James of Correctionville, Iowa, and Toni Nickerson and husband, Stephen of St. Catherine; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ronald Barngrover and David Barngrover and wife, Patricia all of Smithland, Iowa.

His parents; one granddaughter, Heather Ann Barngrover; one grandson, Larry Barngrover, Jr.; five brothers, Russell McClarty, Louis McClarty, Wesley Barngrover, Donald Barngrover, and Edwin Barngrover; and two sisters, Lois Bruins and Lila Shupe preceded him in death.
