J. in 1827; when about 3 years of age, his parents removed to Ohio, where he remained until 1847, when he went to St. Louis where he first engaged in the business of photographing. He married in Hancock Co., Ill., Miss Mary Christfield, a native of Madison, Ind.; they removed to this city in 1854; have two children-Georgiana and Harry C. Mr Emerson acts with the Democratic party.

Georgia Bell b Sept 1870 in Iowa, married George A Veith
Harry C born Sept 1872 in Illinois, married first Emma Crawford, married second Katherine McLaughlin
James Henry born 3-9-1879 in Illinois, married Margaret Estella Keating
Elmer Edwin born 7-17-1882 in Iowa, married Thomas Goldie Patchin
