Ivona J. Garrett, 84, of Oneida, passed away June 19, 2009.
Born in Scott County, February 7, 1925, she was preceded in death by her parents, Benton and Lennie Acres Jones; her husband, Lansden Carson (Rodney) Garrett; brother, J.C. Jones; mother-in-law, Olive C. Williams; brothers-in-law: George Porter, Jimmy Williams, Ben Williams, and P.W. Williams; son-in-law, James E. Calhoun; and niece, Dewanna Jones.
She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she taught the four- and five-year olds, and had 20 years of service in the childrens' ministry. She retired from Oneida Water Department in 1993, after 28 and 1/2 years of service.
She is survived by her children: Mr. and Mrs. Mike Garrett, Patrick Garrett and wife, Barbara, and Tim (Kemo) Garrett and wife, Guelda, all of Oneida, Cheryl Calhoun of Pioneer; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Freda Porter of SC; sisters-in-law: Maxine Jones of Oneida, Carol Williams and Myra Williams, both of Ind., and Judy Williams of Miss.; and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted June 22, in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. David Acres and Rev. Rick Watson officiating. Music was provided by Allen Matthews, and Chad, Fred, and Fannie Hutson. Gravside service was conducted June 23, at Carson Memorial Park.
Jones & Son Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
