Elizabeth was born 20th April 1897, Springvale, Moneyneena, County Derry, Ireland, the first of eleven children born to David O'Kane and Mary Ann Hegarty. In 1913 Elizabeth was appointed monitress and in 1917 was appointed assistant teacher at Moneyneena National School. On the 14th June 1923 Elizabeth married Patrick Cassidy St. Eugene’s Moneyneena. In May 1938 Patrick, Elizabeth & family moved from Moneyneena to 16 Pretoria Road, Chingford, London.
