----------------------------------------------------
Izzy was the 3rd child to be born to John and Emma Bartels, and the oldest daughter (actually, their first child was Esther, who died the day after her birth in 1926). At the time of her birth, her father was a teacher at the Blue Point Lutheran school in Effingham County, Illinois. When she was two years old the family moved to Lincoln County, Kansas where her father had accepted the position of principal at St. John Lutheran School. She attended this school through the 8th grade and then Lincoln High School in Lincoln until graduating in 1942.
Her parents next moved to Paola, Kansas where her father taught at Block. That is where she met her future husband, Marvin Wendte, son of Herman Henry Wendte, Jr and Marie Anna Peckman. They were married April 6, 1947 at Block, with the reception held in her parents' home. Marvin had been through the service, and took a position in Topeka, Kansas. That job next took them to Midwest City, Oklahoma where Izzy lived for the rest of her life.
Izzy had a wonderful personality and was full of love, laughter, and sunshine. All who knew her greatly miss her.
