Sammy Leo Garvin, 70, of rural Neelyville died April 7, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Garvin was born on Nov. 17, 1934 in Anson, Texas.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.

He was a former resident of the Dallas, Texas area. He enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques, reading and being a good father.

On June 26, 1979, he married Mary Alice Tames in Dallas, TX. She survives.

Survivors include seven children, Stephen Garvin of Evansville, IN, David Garvin of Ovila, TX, Melissa Chandler of Plano, TX, James Garvin of Midlothian, TX, Samuel Garvin of Harviell, MO; Boomer Barker of Poplar Bluff, MO and Ana Hulen of Arlington, TX; two sisters, Aileen Baxter of Anson, TX, and Mary Gaither of Vinita, OK; two brothers, Ron Garvin of Mansfield, TX; and Joe Garvin of San Antonio, TX; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Elias Garvin and Clementine Cortez Blackerby Garvin; and one sister, Jane Hodnett.

Visitation will be at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville. A second visitation will be Tuesday at Jaynes Memorial Chapel in Duncanville, TX. Burial will be at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday. Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville is in charge of local arrangements.
