COLUMBIA -- Oscar Smith Wooten, Sr. passed from this world into the presence of Jesus, his Savior, on July 27, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Monday, July 30, 2007, at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends Monday, July 30 10:00 a. m. at the Church.

Memorials can be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church.

Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mr. Wooten, born in Camden, S. C. on August 26 1923, was the son of the late Ernest Lee Wooten and Carrie Durrette Wooten.

Mr. Wooten attended the University of Richmond until serving his country as a B-29 pilot in World War II. He graduated from the University of Richmond in 1948. He worked at the Atomic Energy Commission and Derrick Stubbs and Stith where he became the 160th CPA in the state of S. C. He began working for SCE&G in 1954 and retired as a senior executive officer of the company after a career of nearly 30 years. Mr. Wooten was a charter member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. He served in the Church as a deacon, elder and was the church treasurer for 25 years. Mr. Wooten also served as Treasurer for Congaree Presbytery.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years Helen Lawson Wooten; sons, Oscar Jr. and wife Marynell, Richard and wife Lisa; daughter, Cathy Culbertson and husband Rod Culbertson and daughter-in-law Deckie Wooten; ten grandchildren, Jennifer Starnes and husband Kevin Starnes, Evan Wade and wife Margaret, Charlie Wooten, Helen Culbertson, Graham Culbertson and wife Hillary, Hunter Culbertson, Tyler Culbertson, Zachary Wooten and Bailey Wooten; three great-grandchildren, Haley Starnes, Carson and Mason Wade.

Mr. Wooten was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Thomas Wooten; son, Charles Wooten; and granddaughter, Kendall Wooten.

His family and friends will always cherish his passion for life, his kindness and compassion for all he knew and his love of family gatherings, especially vacations at the beach.
