Hondo Herald

Peter Broers died at his home near Hondo Wednesday at 2 o'clock p.m., March 6, 1901, at the advanced age of 56 years, 4 months and 13 days.

With a sad heart I write this of a dear brother who has gone to rest with his Father in heaven. I am sure of this last statement as he was a kind and loving son to his mother, a most devoted husband and father to his little family, and as sincere a Christian as ever lived. The deceased lived. The deceased lived in Gonzales since he was three years of age until the first part of November when he departed from there and came to this county. He was an honest and trustworthy citizen and gentle and kind to every one. He was a member of the church for a number of years. He was a true Christian in his every day life; he had family prayer every night until his last illness which was caused by lagrippe, which he took the first part of January. He suffered so much with a pain in his right side but bore it so patiently. He got some better and was able to be up and about, but was never free of the pain in his right side until a short time before his death. The pain then went into his left side. It turned into bronchitis. He was too feeble to stand much more then. So he bid farewell to this earth and dear ones and departed to the world awaiting him in heaven. He was laid to rest Thursday afternoon. The last sad rites were witnessed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. May our Heavenly Father sustain and comfort the sorrowing family. He leaves a wife, two children, a sister and a brother to mourn his loss. May God bless and protect them.
