Aversa, Joseph A., 81, of Route 8, Centerville, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Titusville Area Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born April 13, 1919, in McKees Rocks, son of the late Raffaele and Concetta Moraco Aversa. His family moved to the Centerville area in 1925, when he started school in Riceville. He graduated from Bloomfield High School. He was a co-owner of J&R Barber Shop on West Central Avenue in Titusville for 35 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Megeetown, and the Knights of Columbus Council 492, Titusville. He was a musician and a member of many local bands, including Smiling Joe and his Buddies, Golden Tones and The Dandelions. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and making furniture. He and his wife purchased their family farm in 1968. He was preceded in death by a sister, Philomena Castelveter and two brothers, Samuel and Alex Aversa. Survivors include his wife, Arlene Bowles Aversa, whom he married Jan 15, 1945; four sons, Raffaele Aversa and his wife, Michele, Alex Aversa and his wife, Kathy, all of Centerville, Samuel Aversa and his wife, Mary, of Hawthorne, and Joseph Aversa and his wife, Elaine, of Greenville; two daughters, Jolleene Alderman and her husband, Eric, of Centerville, and Concetta Beers and her husband Edward, of Townville; two sisters, Mary Nozzarella of Pittsburgh and Nancy Falbo of Eire; 14 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Interment was at St. Catherine Cemetery, Titusville, PA..
