James Henry Burk, 89, of the Grave Hill community, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 2, 1986, at the Scott County Hospital following a lingering illness. Mr. Burk was the son of the late William Burk and the late Easter Foster Burk and was also preceded in death by a son, Floyd Burk. He was a United States Army veteran of World War I and a longtime member of the Grave Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Sallie Terry Burk of Huntsville; two daughters: Mrs. James (Zola) Brewster of Austin, Tex., and Mrs. Jim (Geneva) Koger of Des Plaines, Ill.; five sons: Ethel Burk of Grave Hill, Otis Lee Burk of Paris, Tenn., Arlie Burk of Cookeville, Cleduith Burk of Huntsville, and James Allen Burk of Round Lake Beach, Ill.; one sister, Lizzie Burchfield of Oneida; one brother, Pat Burk of Pine Creek; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, with Rev. James E. Marcum and Rev. Charlie Duncan officiating. The Davis Family sang. Burial was in the Marcum-Kidd Cemetery in the Grave Hill community. Oneida American Legion Post #136 was in charge of full military honors at the graveside.
