Kenneth R. Kruger, 84, of Buck Lake, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, after a short battle with cancer and pneumonia.

He died peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones and is waiting in heaven where he will greet his family again one day.

Ken was born in Cass Lake, Minn., on March 14, 1927, to Alex and Hazel (Littler) Kruger.

He grew up in Rice Lake, Wis., and enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17, serving his country on the U.S.S. Warren in the South Pacific theatre during World War II.

After the war, Ken married Marjorie Gygli, the love of his life, and after working for a short time in Rice Lake, moved his family to the Iron Range to work for Hanna Mining Company as a truck driver, diesel mechanic, carpenter and foreman.

He retired after 30 years of service and chose to spend 19 years as owner and operator of M-K Transportation, which provided busing for the Nashwauk-Keewatin School District. Every spare moment was spent with his friends and loved ones, hunting and fishing, traveling, and just enjoying his family.

Ken was a man who was well-loved and who loved well. He had many stories from his life that family loved hearing and "there wasn't anything that Dad couldn't do." You could count on Ken to be able to fix or build anything, and he arranged many hunting and fishing trips and vacations. He leaves behind a wealth of wonderful memories of great times!

Ken was a member of First Baptist Church of Hibbing and loved being involved in the construction of items for "Camp Swampy" as he was able. He had a strong mind and good heart, always willing to help others.

Ken is survived by Marge, his wife of 64 years; children, Greg (Pam), Sheri (John) Clifton, Brad (Barb), Bruce (Jane) and Rick (Peggy); 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister Alice (Bob) Andrews, Rice Lake, Wis.

Ken was preceded in death by his father and mother; one brother, Keith; and two grandsons, Aaron and Christopher.
