Mr. Gerald Franklin Wachter, 96, of Keymar died Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Walkersville, after a brief illness. Born October 30, 1918, on the family farm outside of Union Bridge, he was the son of the late George Marshall Wachter and Hattie Ann Estelle Shaeffer Wachter. He was the husband of Caroline Isabelle Boone Wachter whom he married on December 24, 1938 and who died in 2002.

Mr. Wachter was a member of Mt. Zion Haugh's Lutheran Church, Ladiesburg. He was formerly employed on his family's farm, then with Cambridge Rubber Co., Taneytown and retired in the early 80's from Frederick County Roads Dept. as a truck driver. He enjoyed vacationing in Myrtle Beach, SC, mowing his yard, playing cards and Triominoes, the Baltimore Orioles, flower gardening and spending time with his family and going out to eat.

Surviving are 4 daughters, Shirley Grossnickle and husband Charles and Geraldine Weller and husband Donald, all of Union Bridge; Joyce Storks and husband Eddie of Myrtle Beach and Sharon Wood of Frederick; son-in-law, David "Dick" Scheel of Mt. Airy; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and several nieces.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda Jane Scheel on October 24, 2014; sisters, Marie Devilbiss and Thelma Wachter; brothers, Reginald "Bub" and Thomas "Tom" Wachter and a nephew, George Wachter.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, with Rev. James Benedict, pastor of Union Bridge Church of the Brethren, officiating. Interment will follow in Haugh's Cemetery, Ladiesburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Monday, November 10.

Mr. Wachter was very fortunate to have his five daughters take care of him during his later years and the family would also like to thank the staff at Glade Valley Nursing Home for their loving care.
