Mrs. Scheel was a 1964 graduate of Linganore High School and had been employed with the Department of Energy until her retirement in 2006. She then spent her remaining years helping to care for her father and grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to her husband and father, are a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Stephanie Scheel of Charlottesville; 2 grandchildren, Dylan and Mackenzie Scheel and four sisters, Shirley Grossnickle and husband Butch of Union Bridge; Joyce Storks and husband Eddie of Myrtle Beach, SC; Geraldine Weller and husband Donald of Union Bridge and Sharon Wood of Frederick.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 3 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, to which all are welcome to attend and celebrate Mrs. Scheel's life.
Inurnment will take place at a later date in a private ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society , 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784 or to V.F.W. Post 10076, 111 S. Main St., Mt. Airy, MD 21771.
