H.R. Abla, Shawnee, died Thursday at his home. He was 71.

Abla was born on June 20, 1928, in Erick, the son of Homer E. and Dollie (Brown) Abla.

He married Charlene Roberts on Nov. 3, 1947, in San Luis Obispo County, Calif.

He worked as a welder, foreman and district transmission superintendent for Oklahoma Natural Gas until 1986.

Abla was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Dollie Abla; a brother, Leonard Abla; a sister, Joy Abla; and a grandson, Lincoln.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Abla, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Jeanie Abla, Plano, Texas; Craig and Donna Abla, Hutchinson, Kan.; two brothers, Hulon Abla, Camden, Ark.; Don Abla, Shawnee; and eight grandchildren, Josh Abla, St. Louis, Mo.; April Abla, Plano, Texas; Summer Abla, Candice Abla, Audra Abla, Chandra Abla, Billy Abla and Victoria Abla, all of Hutchinson, Kan.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee, 1102 W. MacArthur, Shawnee, OK 74801.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Matthews and Brother Phil Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Shawnee.
