Corporal Emmett(sic) Dunn
Killed in Defense of His
Country in North Africa

Sayre citizens were shocked to learn today of the death of Corporal Emmett(sic) Dunn, who was killed in action in the service of his country in the North Africa theatre of operations on March 13.

Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Dunn, parents, who live south of Sayre were notified Sunday by General Ulio, adjutant general, that their son had been killed in action. The telegram stated: "The Secretary of War desires to express his deep regret that your son, Corporal Emit M. Dunn, was killed in action in defense of his country in the North Africa area March 13."

In his last letter to his mother Corporal Dunn had told of seeing President Roosevelt in Africa and of being in the parade staged for the president. He also told how well he liked the service.

He entered the service in the engineering corps on June 9 1942 at Corpus Christi, Texas and was sent to Fort Sam Houston, Texas for one month and then sent to Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. From there he went to the camp at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

He sailed for North Africa in October last year.

First letter sent after he landed was received by his folks here on December 26. His last letter was received February 2.

Corporal Dunn volunteered for the army on two occasions previous to his enlistment.

Before he entered the army he was employed as foreman for Brown, Bellows and Columbia, iron and steel concern, at Corpus Christi, Texas.

After his induction he returned to Sayre for a 10-day leave but after that received no further furloughs. In his first letter written after arriving in Africa he reported for active duty with the French forces on the coast.

Corporal Emmett Michael Dunn was born at Healdton, Oklahoma on January 28, 1914.

He attended public schools at Fox, Oklahoma.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Dunn, South Star route, Sayre; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Frisbie Sanford, Texas, Mrs. Georgia Gray and Miss Gladys Frisbie, Sanford, Texas. three brothers, Marvie, Harvie and vance(sic) all of Sayre and a host of relatives and friends.
