Mary Ellen Elder was the dau of David Elder and Jane T. Irvine, his second wife. She married John Elder, son of John Tully Elder and Mary Ann Munro, on Oct 14, 1903 at Elder's Mill, Ontario. They became the parents of three children: John Leslie, Malcolm Irvine and Jean Gordon. Mary Ellen died in 1935 in Huntingdon at the age of 47 years.

05-14-1933 Mary Elder, beloved wife of John Elder, died at Athelstan PQ, aged 66 years. Mrs. Elder was born at Elder's Mill, near Toronto Ont., a daughter of the late David Elder. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband and one son, Leslie, a brother and three sisters in Toronto. Funeral service was held in the Athelstan Presbyterian Church on Tuesday afternoon and was conducted by her pastor Rev. Pete McK Sampson, assisted by Rev. J. Woodside of Kensington, Rev. Dr. McLean of Huntingdon, Rev. Walter Ross of Ormstown, and Rev. Mr. Adams of Montreal West. Interred in the family plot in the Athelstan Cemetery beside her children, Malcolm and Jean, who predeceased her.

06-26-1938 John Elder, passed away at home in his sleep, at Athelstan Québec, age 71 years. Mr. Elder was born in the year of Confederation, he was engaged in lumbering and milling. He leaves to mourn, one son, J. Leslie Elder, with whom he made his home, and one baby granddaughter, one sister, Mrs. James Brims of Athelstan Québec, and two brothers, George Elder, also of Athelstan, and James Elder of Brandon MB, his wife, the late Mary E. Elder, of Elder's Mill's ON, predeceased him five years ago. Funeral service was held in the Athelstan Presbyterian Church, service conducted by his pastor, Rev. William Scott Duncan, assisted by Rev. J. B. McLean, Rev. Alex Nimmo and Rev. J. H. Woodside.
