Earl A. Groft, 75, of 420 Carlisle St., Hanover, died Monday, Nov. 2, at Hanover Hospital.
He was the husband of the late Betty J. Cromer Groft, who died July 9, 1979.
Born in Adams County, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth Hockensmith Groft.
He was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Hanover. He was a retired employee of the Hanover Shoe Co. after working for 46 years. He was a member if AARP, the American Legion of Hanover, Republican Club of Hanover, the Hanover Home Association, The Eagles of Gettysburg; and a life member of the McSherrystown Home Association, the McSherrystown Moose and the New Oxford Social Club. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Patricia A. Zeigler of Hanover, one son, Bradley W. Groft of Denver Colo.; one stepson Kenwood L. Cromer of Brodbecks; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Marie Baker, Miss Pauline E. Groft and Mrs. Genevieve Bolin, all of McSherrystown and sister Agatha Marie Groft of Columbia.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, meeting at Hicks Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vincent's Church at 10 a.m. with Monsignor Hubert J. McGuire as the celebrant. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
