Solomon is this contributor's direct ancestor.

Solomon's parents were Exum Eley (Sr.) and his second wife, Martha "Patsey" Darden Marshall Eley.

Solomon served in the 16th Virginia Infantry, Company D and was present at Appomattox on April 9, 1865 for the surrender. His photo has been placed on the Wall of Honor at Appomattox Court House.

Solomon and Sarah had 3/4 possible children, Lorena, Laverta and 1 or 2 sons that died at birth or shortly thereafter.

For years, Solomon's burial spot was not know. It was thought he might be buried at the Charles Darden homestead cemetery, even tho not marked.

For a variety of reasons, the sourcing on the following information is not the best, maybe someday it can be improved. We are thankful for this gift of information, especially since I never thought we would find anything referencing Solomon's last place of rest, considering, 1871.

It is believed this is from the August 15, 1871, Tuesday edition:

“The remains of the late Capt. Solomon B. Eley, who died in Prince George County, will be re-interred at Antioch Church in Isle of Wight County, on next Tuesday the 15th inst., at 2 o’clock, P.M.. the pastor of the church will deliver a discourse to his memory at that time.”

**Should be noted, he did not pass in Prince George County.
