Susan Deloris Johnson, age 62 of Park Rapids, MN, died at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND on January 26, 2014 due to complications from diabetes.

Sue grew up near Bluegrass, MN attending District 14 Country School through sixth grade, and graduated from Wadena High School in 1969. Following high school, she attended Southwest Minnesota State College in Marshall, MN from where she graduated in 1973.

In 1974, Sue went to work for the University of Minnesota where she worked as a director of food service, living in Maple Grove, MN during that time. She continued there until illness forced her to retire in the spring of 2013. She then moved from Maple Grove to Park Rapids to be closer to family. Sue enjoyed taking vacations with many family members over the years. In her early years she was very involved in 4-H projects involving clothing, foods, raising chickens and showing sheep at various fairs. She loved flowers, being at the lake, having campfires, making s’mores and enjoying the fellowship of family. She had a passion for cooking and could always be found in the kitchen cooking up something special. Sue was also an avid Twins and Vikings fan, watching whenever she could. She was a generous woman who opened her heart and home to many family members who needed a place to stay.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Evelyn (Billington) Johnson, and one sister, Betty Crocker, and a sister-in-law, Kathy (Mattson) Johnson. She is survived by her sisters, Linda (Les) Horsager, Park Rapids, MN; Pegge (Tom) Ament, Bluffton, MN; Becky (Steve) Pierson, Sebeka, MN; Cathy Johnson, Perham, MN; brothers Chuck (Patricia) Johnson, Wadena, MN and Steve Johnson, Sebeka, MN; brother-in-law, Jim Crocker, Park Rapids, MN and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Wevley Funeral Home on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Bethany Free Lutheran Church in Bluegrass, MN with Pastor Adam Osier, officiating.
