Mrs. George W. Creath, 92, Born Near Eldon
Mrs. Melissa Jane Creath, 92, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grace Acton, 2429 East Main street, Ottumwa, at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. She had been in fairly good health and her death was sudden.
She was widely known as "Grandma Creath" and was born on a farm about three and one-half miles northeast of Eldon in a log cabin in the Ashland community. She had resided on the farm where she was born most of her life but had recently moved to Ottumwa to reside with her daughter.
She had been a member of the Ashland Methodist church since childhood and was married to George W. Creath September 14, 1865. He died in 1920. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Acton of Ottumwa and Mrs. J. T. Black of Agency, a son, Thomas M. Creath of Baltimore, Md., 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Dr. W. E. Creath of Ottumwa, and two daughters.
Funeral services will be held at the Ashland church Friday at 2 p.m. in charge of the Rev. G. W. Baker of Eldon. Burial will be in the Ashland cemetery. The body will remain at the Campbell funeral home at Eldon until time for the services.
