Eugene graduated from the school of life at the age of 91. He was born in Hastings, North Dakota to Peder and Aggie Strinden. Eugene graduated from Jamestown ND High School in 1939, the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis in 1941, Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter in 1946, and the Rock Island Theological Seminary in Rock Island, Illinois in 1951. He served his internship in Chicago where he received his hospital chaplaincy training.

Eugene was united in marriage to Lillian Jeanette Nelson on June 8, 1946. He served Lutheran parishes as a pastor in Hinckley, MN (First, 1951-57); Everett, WA (Zion, 1957-65); Junction City, OR (Faith, 1965-68); and Klamath Falls OR (Hope, 1968-83), where he developed Luther Square. They retired to Salem OR in 1983 where they were members of Faith Lutheran in Keizer and Holy Cross. He was volunteer projects coordinator for the Oregon Department of Corrections for twenty-five years, and visitation pastor at Holy Cross for ten years. All his ministry he enjoyed knowing that people, like kites, were made to be lifted up (Chantal).

Eugene was preceded in death by his wife of more than 65 years and his sister, Mildred, and brother, Jerome. He is survived by two children: Judith Lea and Timothy E. Strinden. His deceased children are Miriam Strinden and Cheryl Beth Vehrencamp. He enjoyed three grandchildren; Jade Reidy, Cynthia Vehrencamp and Timothy J. (T.J.) Strinden; and recently learned of the birth of his first great-grandchild, Jade's daughter, Lillian. Eugene had a strong faith and looked forward to being reunited with his loved ones in heaven.

The family is grateful to Eugene's friends and pastor and the caring workers at Lancaster Village. Donations may be made to the Strinden-Vehrencamp Fund at Trinity Lutheran College, Everett, WA, a memorial fund for daughters Miriam and Cheryl; or to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at Holy Cross, 1998 Lansing Ave. NE, on Saturday, December 1st, at 2:00 p.m.
