Thanks to FAG contributor, Susan Grabek, for sharing this excerpt from an Ancestry.com memorial written my John's son, Thomas Richard "Dick" Allen: "My mother was my father's second wife. His first wife was named Suttles. As well as I remember they had six children born to them. Their names were as follows: William, Isaac, James, John, Martha and Sally. My mother was the mother of four children. The first died in infancy, then I came next --- my name Thomas R. Allen --- then Mary Ellis and Lizzie."

1850 Census records show John & Kizziah living in Southern District, Lauderdale County, Mississippi. Others listed are Wm(24), Martha(18), Issac(16), James(14) & Jno(12). John's place of birth is listed as Georgia, and he is listed as a farmer, with a $600 value placed on his owned real estate. Wm & Isaac are also listed as farmers.

1860 Census records show John & Susan living in Newton County, Mississippi. Others listed are John(22), Richard(8), May(6) & Elizabeth(3). John's place of birth is again listed as Georgia. He is listed as a farmer with real estate valued at $4800 & a personal estate valued at $1200. The younger John is also listed as a farm laborer.

1870 Census records show John & Kizziah living in Township 7 Range 10, Newton County, Mississippi. Others listed are Thomas R.(18), Mary E.(16) & Elizabeth(13). John's place of birth is again listed as Georgia. At age 69, he is still listed as a farmer with real estate valued at $720 & a personal estate valued at $600. Thomas R. is listed as a farm laborer. Although, not indicated on the 1850 Census, this record indicates John is unable to read or write.
