Edith Harriet Edwardson, age 102, passed away Thursday evening, October 23, 2014 at Colonial Villa in Midland MI. Edith was born March 3, 1912 in Ashland, WI, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anne (Johnson) Darwin. Edith married Henry “Hank” Edwardson on June 23, 1937.

They moved to Midland MI in 1952 when Henry got a job at Dow Corning. Edith continued her education, earning a BA Degree in Education from Central Michigan University. She taught kindergarten at Chestnut Hill Elementary for 20 years. They both retired in 1975 and moved to Wixom Lake, while spending winters in Florida and Arizona. Edith loved having friends at the lake where she enjoyed paddle boating and fishing. She was an avid Tigers fan, and also enjoyed her many friends at La Casa, FL.

She is survived by her daughters Joanne (Duane) Carlson of Midland MI and Elaine (Dennis) Dowling of Fountain Hills AZ; grandchildren Craig (Lynne) Carlson of Midland MI, Vicki Redlawski of Mt. Pleasant MI, Mark (Kirsti) Carlson of Midland MI, Michael (Kathy) Deakin of Longmont CO, Jennifer (Bryan) Golden of Fountain Hills AZ, Scott (Cindy) Deakin of Prescott AZ; 10 great grandchildren, brothers Bob Darwin, George (Vi) Darwin, and her sister Ila Mae Lemmons. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Henry Edwardson and her son David Edwardson. The family wishes to give special appreciation for all the kindness and care provided by the staff of Colonial Villa and Southern Care Hospice.

Funeral services will take place at 11 am, Monday, October 27, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3701 N. Jefferson Avenue, Midland MI. Rev. Gerald Ferguson will officiate with burial in Midland Cemetery, Midland MI. Edith’s family will receive friends at Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler Street, Midland MI on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, and at the church from 10 am until time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Trinity Lutheran Church.
