Mr. Clontz, 74, of Charlotte died Monday, October 18, 2004 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. The family will receive friends Friday, October 22, 2004 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. with funeral services in celebration of his life being held at 2:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Indian Trail Chapel, 4431 Old Monroe Road, with the Reverend Darrin Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Clontz was born on February 8, 1930, in Union County, son to the late Baxter H. and Ocie Ross Clontz. He was a graduate of Fairview High School, class of 1947. He served his country in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge in 1950. He was also a member of the Newell Masonic Lodge #739. Mr. Clontz was affiliated with the Motor Freight Industry for over 40 years and was Owner and President of American Traffic Services, Inc. for the past 25 years. He served as President of the Charlotte Traffic and Transportation Club from 1985-1986 and was very knowledgeable in traffic and transportation matters. He was very charming, and a real gentleman, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He had a deep love for children and was a father figure to many neighborhood children and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy H. Clontz of the home; a brother, Robert J. Clontz and wife Susie of Fairview; a sister, Betty Hubbard and husband Bill of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
