Darrels obituary follows: Darrel L. Boyer, 89, passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was born July 20, 1921 in St. Joseph, the son of Louis Isaac and Zula Grey (Koon) Boyer. Mr. Boyer was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. He married LaVonne L. Rice, who preceded him in death on July 21, 2009. Mr. Boyer served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the VFW No. 359 for over 53 years. He was a supporter of the St. Joe Saints and an original member of the Diamond Club. He loved baseball, bowling, and boating. Mr. Boyer owned and operated a family business, Missouri Granite, and worked as a stone cutter. He is also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ben and Boyd; three sisters, Alice Louise, Min Odra, and Sherry; nephew, Tom; and niece, Cathy. Survivors: one daughter, Darolyn Mills; one grandson, Cliff Mills (Christi); a niece, Diane Hofmeister; two great-grandchildren, Brady Matherly and Lily Jo Mills, all of St. Joseph; one brother, Virgil Boyer; one sister, Derry Landrus (Ronald); and many nieces and nephews. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment: Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
