Frances Bearden Morgan, 93, of Marietta died September 30, 2014. The Funeral will be held at 4:30PM, October 11, at St. Benedicts Episcopal Church, 2160 Cooper Lake Rd., Smyrna, GA with Father Brian Sullivan officiating. A reception will be held at the Parish Hall at St. Benedicts immediately after the funeral. Mrs. Morgan is survived by her son, Andrew G. Morgan Jr. (Gil); daughter-in-law, Susan Morgan, grand-daughter Lauren Morgan, grand-son, David Morgan and step-grand-son, Cameron McConnell, all of Smyrna. Burial will be at 12 Noon on Monday, October 13, in the Mausoleum at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, Columbia, SC. Born in Columbia, South Carolina and a graduate of Columbia High School, Mrs. Morgan won an English C as head typist of the high school newspaper. She was a pioneer of the early days of radio having her own radio music show at both WIS and WCOS in Columbia. In 1942 she married Andrew G. Morgan, Sr., who was with Eastern Air Lines and the newlywed couple moved to Miami, FL. She was a telephone operator for Southern Bell and during W.W. II, toured with the USO providing musical entertainment for America’s soldiers. Mrs. Morgan was on the administrative staff of Bernarr Macfadden, founder of one of the largest magazine publishers of the 20th century and a nutritionist and bodybuilder who along with Charles Atlas and Jack Lalanne, has been credited with beginning the culture of health and fitness in the United States. She studied voice at the University of Miami Conservatory and also after moving to Atlanta in 1961 studied under opera star Blanch Thebom. She was a member of the Southern Regional Opera in Atlanta serving on the Thebom Committee, was past President of the South Carolina Club, was a choir member of Southwest Christian Church and was a member of St. Benedicts Episcopal Church.
