General Moses W Chapline*, aide de camp of General Louis Cass in War of 1812. He was the first Mayor of Wheeling in 1836 to 1840. His wife was Elizabeth Miller Fox, whose father was Josiah Fox, for 15 years constructor of all the navy yards of the United States, appointed under General Washington's administration.

GEN. MOSES W. CHAPLINE served in War of 1812; was Aide-de-Camp to General CASS, and an officer of great promise; first Mayor of Wheeling, W. Va.; a man of great prominence in that community. While Mayor, he and his brother-in-law, Capt. Noah Zane, were on the Reception Committee that entertained General LAFAYETTE on his visit to America in 1825, and a great ball was given in LAFAYETTE'S honor. General Moses Chapline presided at the Banquet.
