He attended Illinois State University in Iowa, The Sorbonne, and Army Professional Schools. Carl served in the medical department during WWII in Europe and the remainder of his 23 years in service as Army Reserve. He and his four brothers, Herbert, Merle, Kermit and James all served in the armed forces, and he and two brothers retired from the Army.
Carl also worked as a professional psychologist specializing in children and families, learning impairments, and standardization of psychological tests. He was a member of the American Psychological Assn. and the Retired Officer's Assn.
While he studied many religions, he practiced Christianity. He had a lifetime devotion to gardening, art, his country's welfare, physical fitness, and children.
Carl was the son of the late Minnie and Elbie Bell.
Surviving are his second wife, Bonnie; his longtime present and caring companion, Mary; two children, Geraldine and Maureen; a brother, Kermit Bell of Batchtown, IL; six grandchildren; and many close friends.
Carl was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace; a son, Christopher; brothers, Herbert, Merle and James.
