Barnett W. Prescott, age 20, a resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, enlisted on Apr. 24, 1861, as a Private in Company K, 11th Iowa Infantry. Mustered out Aug. 21, 1861, in St. Louis, Missouri. Re-enlisted Sept. 17, 1861, as a Private in Company K, 1st Iowa Infantry. Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant March 16, 1863. Promoted to Captain, Jan. 5, 1865. Mustered out July 15, 1865, in Louisville, Kentucky.

He married Lydia A. Hess on Jan. 5, 1867 in Cole, Missouri. They were in St. Louis, Missouri, in the 1870 and 1880 censuses, with one daughter, Dawn, who was born in 1869. While in living in St. Louis, Barnet was employed as a policeman and a lawyer. They went to California in the early 1880s and lived for a time in San Jose, where B. W. Prescott's name appears on the 1886 membership roster of John A. Dix Post No. 42, G.A.R. Sometime after that (probably in the late 1880s) he moved to Chicago and got job with the post office, while Lydia stayed behind in Oakland, Calif.

Prescott, 2239 Harrison street, aged 69 years. He was born in New York and served through the civil war. He is survived by a daughter who lives in California.
