Michael (Mike) Ray Hammond, 66, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2013 surrounded by loved ones at Providence Mount Carmel Hospital, Colville. Mike was born Jan 12, 1947 to Tommy and Ruth (Cline) Hammond. He graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1964.
Mike loved the Kettle Falls area and loved spending time on his mountain property. He was loved by many and he loved talking with and spending time with family and friends. He was the kind of man that always helped everyone in any way he could and truly would give you the shirt off his back. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Mike had various work interests during his life to include working in mines, construction, mechanics, Roto Rooter, and in lumber mills in the Northwest area, leading him to his favorite position before retiring from Columbia Cedar as a millwright.
Mike’s true passions in life besides working were reading, drinking Pepsi, playing cribbage, motorcycle riding and working in his shop on old classic cars. He often said his favorite sound was when he took an old engine that wouldn’t start and got it to turn over. The purr or rumble of that engine gave him great joy.
Mike is survived by his partner of 28 years, Jacklyn A. Bye; his sons, Tony (Sherri) Hammond, David (Gina) Aman, Daniel (Erica) Hammond; daughters, Lorinia Hammond, Tanya Aman and Kassie (Marc) Phillips. He was known as PapaBear to his grandchildren, A.J., L.A., Johnathan, Madison, Jadyn, Brayden, Savannah, MaKenna, McKinley, Delany and great-grandchildren, Logan, Owee, Jazmine, Atticus; sisters, Nadine (Dave) Borders, Polly (Mike) Weimer, Julie (Roland) Nellis, Julie Werner; brother, Pat Hammond; his many nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved dogs, bear and boo.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Allen and James Hammond, and by two sisters, Judy Mace and Janell Simmons.
The relatives and friends of Mike Hammond are invited to attend a Celebration of Life potluck service on Sunday July 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Happy Dell Park, 505 W. 3rd, Kettle Falls (located just off Highway 395 on the west end of town).
