Rebecca Billman Zerfing (Rebecca Anne Snyder - Miller’s namesake) was born Friday 7/27/1838 in Northumberland Co., PA.

She was the 4th child of Daniel Billman (6/30/1808 - 8/11/1885) (farmer) and Catharine Wentzel (4/24/1809 - 2/13/1888). Rebecca had 7 brothers (John, Henry, Daniel W., Isaac, Adam, Arasman M., Jordan) and 2 sisters (Harriett, Mary A.).

She married Daniel Zerfing (blacksmith) (1835-1900) circa 1858 in Northumberland Co. PA. They were married about 42 years. They moved to Perry County between 1858-1860. In 1870, their Real Estate was valued at $2200.00 and Personal Property was at $500.00. In 1870, they were living in Spring Township, Perry Co. (PO was New Bloomfield) and later in Landisburg, Perry Co. PA. They owned the house free of any mortgage (Census Record – 1900). She moved to 413 N Market St., Duncannon in 1900 after Daniel’s death in April of 1900.

Mother of 9 children – Elizabeth, Henry, Ida M. (music teacher), Catharine (Long), Jacob, AO (hardwareman), Charles E. (school teacher/lawyer), Daniel F. (Sarah (Sally) Margaret Zerfing Sollenberger’s father) (salesman), and 1 infant not named. Elizabeth and Henry died young. Ida, Jacob and Charles never married. All her children could read, write and speak English.

Rebecca died August 4, 1915 about 3pm in Duncannon, Perry County, PA. Aged: 77 years & 8 days.

She was living at 413 North Market Street with her unmarried children – Ida, Jacob, Charles & Daniel. Daniel later married Margaret Elizabeth Black - “the girl next door.”

Per her death certificate she died of gangrene of the left foot. She had had diabetes mellitus for a couple years.

Rebecca was a Lutheran. Her church (Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church) in Spring Township, Perry Co., PA celebrated its sesquicentennial (1857-2007). A stained-glass window in the church is dedicated to her parents (Daniel & Catharine Wentzel Billman) – given by the family. A 150th church anniversary celebration booklet contains a picture of the stained-glass window (“Christ the Consoler”).

Rebecca is buried in Mount Zion Cemetery. Five of her nine children are buried there also. Three children (Ida, Alvin (AO) & Daniel) are interred in the Duncannon Presbyterian Cemetery and one child (Kate) in Dauphin.
