AUTO ACCIDENTS KILL ONE, INJURE 5 OVER WEEK END

Empire Farmer Succumbs; Driver whose car hit him is held.

Automobiles took the life of one person and injured five others in Stanislaus County over the weekend.

Carl Stark, 64, Empire farmer, was fatally hurt last night when struck by an automobile driven by Lester Fry, 28, also of Empire, one-half mile from that town.
Fry is held in custody here facing possible drunk driving and manslaughter charges, according to the district attorney's office.

Plan Inquest Tonight

An inquest will be conducted tonight by Corone4 George Sovern, after which Captain A.A.Morrison of Stanislaus County Highway Patrol expects chrarges will be filed.

As related by Captain Morrison, Stark was walking on the highway when struck by Fry, who stopped and then went to his home. Other motorists took the injured man to the Robertson Hospital here.
Found Youth on Bed

Morrison says he found the youth on his bed when he called to place him under arrest, and he appeared to have been drinking.

Stark died of internal injuries. He also had suffered a broken right leg and many cuts and bruises.
