Frances Burt Newman, 61, of 368 1/2 Rock St. Harrisonburg was dead on arrival at Rockingham Memorial Hospital Friday night. She had been ill several days.
Mrs. Newman was born Nov. 24, 1916 in Tate, GA. and was a daughter of the late Gordon Price and Mary Frances Thomas Burt.
In 1964, she moved to Harrisonburg, where she was a member of Harrisonburg Baptist Church and the auxilliaries of American Legion Post 27, Rion Bowman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 632 and Hose Co.4.
On Aug. 20, 1972, she married Joseph A. Newman, who survives.
Also surviving are two sisters, Ruby Fossett of Lathamtown, GA. and Aline Dobbs of Marietta, GA., and two brothers John D. Burt of San Pablo, CA. and Warren A.(Bob) Burt of Austin, TX.
The funeral will be conducted 11 am Tuesday at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral home by the Rev. Sam Jones and Rev. T. W. Johnson Jr. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
The body is at the funeral home, where friends may call.
