Rites for a Former Halan County Woman
Mrs. Henry Adam’s untimely death did not come to her loved ones and many friends at Mascot without warning. She slipped quietly and peacefully away with her Silent Savior to the shore where there is no night, after a long illness of about four months, Thursday morning 16 February 1928 at her home near Arroyo Grande, California.
Miss Ada Richards was born 29 March 1863 near Ontario, Illinois. She was married to Mr. Henry Adams, of near Ontario, Illinois, 31 December 1882. They made their home in this neighborhood until in the year 1888 at which time they moved from Knox county, Illinois to Mascot, Harlan county, Nebraska, where they reside on a farm for twenty-three yeras. From Mascot they moved to Arroyo Grande, California, where they have since resided and at which place Mrs. Adams passed to her eternal home of rest and peace.
To this union nine children were born, six of whom are still living. Three little children and her father and mother preceeded her in death. Mrs. Adams is one of the five children born to her parents and is the first of the “five” to be called from her earthly home.
Mrs. Adams, with her husband, were converted under the influence of the gospel as preached by by the Methodist Episcopal faith in the year of 1889 and during these many years of a Christian life.
Mrs. Adams will be remembered as one of the early pioneer women of Harlan county that met and overcame many adversities with the spirit of hope and helpfulness to care for her own home and little children. Was found ever ready, thoughful and with opportunity to help lift the burden of her friends and neighbors in times of sickness and deep sorrow, always giving her time and sympathy untiringly. Her ambition was to serve rather than to be served. Although for many, many years she had been in frail health, she was hopeful and lived to see the sunshine of many beautiful and better things ahead.
