Eighth of 10 children born to James Alexander Hutchinson and Nancy O'Neal. Married to Cordelia Adeline Lester on Mar. 4, 1880. They had nine children.

Eldridge died in a coal mining accident per the Twenty-First Annual Report Coal Mines in the state of West Virginia, U.S.A.

"Hutchinson, Eldridge (American; seven years exper; age 40; Married; 2 children)
June 18, 1903. Eldridge Hutchinson, Camp Branch Mine, was working
with his son and was at the time of the accident picking down coal on
the left side of room when top gave way about three feet behind him
and he must have jumped out of the way of it and as he did so it
caught his head. "
