He was born on June 23, 1912 in San Antonio, TX., where he lived until he was 6 years old. The family moved to Fredericksburg, TX where he attended school and graduated from Fredericksburg High School. He was the oldest of nine children. He was active throughout his life in church and many other organizations. He was Chairman of the Congregation for the Zion Lutheran Church and held other offices. He was involved in Boy Scouts, president of John Marshall High School Band Boosters, and a Little League Umpire. He loved to fish, deer hunt and camping. Loved watching the Cowboys and the Spurs. He and his wife have lived in San Antonio since 1938.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor Olfers of San Antonio; sons John T. Olfers and wife Cyndi and Peter B. Olfers and wife Jeryl; grandchildren Tony Olfers, Tara Olfers, Timothy Olfers and wife Kim, Tracey D'Eredita and husband Rich, Amy O'Malley and husband Jeff, Stephani Martinez and husband Jaime, and Joshua Olfers; eight great-grandchildren; Brothers Theodore Olfers and Rudy Olfers; sister Ruth Christy; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Edna Olfers; sisters Elba Clark, Ruby Coffee, and Lorene Strickland; and brothers Werner Olfers, and Johnny Olfers.
SERVICES There will be a public visitation on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 from 5 7 p.m. in the Mission Park Funeral Chapel North Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at 10 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, 702 Cincinnati, San Antonio, Texas.
