Moberly (MO) Weekly Monitor, Mar. 26, 1909- A team of mules ran away with John Pollard, near Ash, Monday evening while cutting stalks and as he fell from the stock cutter his left leg caught in the wheel and was broken in three places between the ankle and the knee. Doctors Johnson and Carver were called and pronounced it one of the worst fractures they ever reduced. Mr. Pollard did not succeed in extricating himself until he had been dragged some distance and was indeed fortunate to escape with his life.

Obituary (Moberly (MO) Daily Monitor, Apr. 1, 1909)- John Pollard, of near Madison, who was injured in a runaway recently, died Monday and was buried Tuesday at the Hughes cemetery. Mr. Pollard was sixty three years of age and leaves one daughter and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.
